According to police, officers responded to Fir Street in Valley Stream at around 3:52 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 8. Upon arrival, police observed the second floor of a Fir Street residence fully engulfed in flames.
The Valley Stream Fire Department responded with the assistance of the Lynbrook Fire Department, Woodmere Fire Department and the Elmont Fire Department to extinguish the flames.
There were at least six fire apparatus and 60 fire personnel on the scene.
The 102-year-old resident suffered smoke inhalation and was transported by the Woodmere Fire Department to a local hospital for treatment.
The Nassau County Fire Marshall and the Nassau County Police Arson Bomb Squad were also on scene investigating. The investigation is ongoing.
